Be here now, be somewhere else later. Is that so complicated – David Bader
The following are a list of meditation classes that I have tried in Whitstable. As mentioned on other pages of this website I’ve actually practiced yoga and meditation for over 8 years and have considered doing the teacher training myself. Meditation has been my friend on many occasions, such as difficult times with family or during busy periods at work.
Yoga Wellbeing offers bespoke meditation classes in Whitstable , unlike the yoga, many of these take place as private sessions. Though they can also setup and run group sessions for workplaces or groups of friends who want a more exclusive experience.
Laura Watson has been my meditation and yoga teacher for over a year, she has over 10 years experience teaching in the UK and boy to you know it! She when I first started at class she immediately identified alignment issues which previous teachers had missed. However what I really like is her ability to teach meditations. Most yoga teachers do not do this as they think people just want to learn how to stand on their heads. Which is not the purpose of it as far as I am aware
Location: meditation classes are delivered at The Retreat, Station Road, Whitstable, CT5 1LG. They can also be delivered at your house or place of work, as well as online. YW alsp offer Skype yoga sessions!
Price: £60 p/h for private classes, block booking discounts available, affordable groups prices available.
Yoga with Chrissie Dolby
Chrissie is some what of a yoga legend in Whitstable, having taught both asana and meditation for over 30 years, she’s an original. She primarily teaches groups classes and from what I can tell a lot of regulars. They even meet up and go for breakfast and dinner meetings together outside of class. I can definitely see this appealing to some people, but it was a little full on for me!
Location: The Garden room, Longfield Court, Longfield Close, Swalecliffe, CT5 2SP and Whitstable Castle, 15 Tower Hill, Whitstable CT5 2BW
Price: from £7 for group classes
Yoga with Emma Slade
Note: Emma is not currently seeking new students, but I believe that she does referrals
Emma has been teaching meditation and wider for over a decade. Since 2012 she has deepened her understanding of the relationship between yoga and Buddhism by being ordained as a Buddhist nun with the monastic name Ani Pema Deki. She has also founded her own charitable organisation supporting sustainable development in Bhutan
Emma teaches many people on a one to one basis, for people who do not yet feel comfortable to practice in a group situation this works well. It can also be the best way if you are in need of specific help with your practice, or have a specific medical issue such as knee problems
Location: meditation classes are delivered at Emma’s place in Clare Road.
Price: £10 per person
